i was raised as a witness and am very thankful that i am out.
having said that, i think my upbringing produced positive qualities in me.
do you believe that anything positive came from your being a witness?
Much. Helped me develop great public speaking abilities. Also, whatever the reason, helped me to abstain from smoking, drug use and alcohol abuse, or disfiguring/mutilating myself with tattoos/piercings.
Everytime I watch those smoke quitting or drug rehab commercials it is impossible to deny the positive effect that the WTBTS people clean.
Add to that conflict resolution in marriage and other social interactions.
A very inconvenient truth for this forum obviously. No situation is all bad.

i have.. typically it's the last resort when you have dismantled a jws beliefs and they have no way of defending them.
they know they are beat so they come out with that one.. its effectively an admission that you are right and they have no argument but they are still going to attend meetings because they like the social club.. what a lame way to defend your faith..

It is definitely a consolation when all other reasons are lost. Even knowing TTATT, I really enjoy my social click and interactions inside the Org.
Having been conditioned/indoctrinated since birth presents a personality molded to a certain degree where anything else is so foreign that it is literally uncomfortable.
Believe me, I have tried social interactions with non-JWs, mainly co-workers and it just doesn't work out for me. The minute the drunken behavior, fowl language, smoking, excessive displays of affection (loose sexual conduct), you know, the "anything goes" behavior begins at social events of non-JWs I just need to leave. It is not how I was raised, not who I would ever aspire to be.
Conditioning/indoctrination runs the deepest.

an announcement was made at the meeting that if anybody wanted to contribute, they could do so through their service group overseer.
my guess is that this arrangement is meant to bring tears of joy to the eyes of the impoverished one, and thankfulness to "jehovah's organization.

just wanted to know if any one has any idea's or personal experience in regard to drug and alcohol abuse in former jw's.
all the one's i know have just lost the plot when it comes drugs and alcohol, especially drug use.
A large percentage, most I have known in the past, do throw the baby out with the bath water; becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy for sure.
I cannot explain why that happens, but it certainly does in many cases. In these instances, it would've been more beneficial for these types to have remained JWs.

At the last assy, during the elder's mtg, a collection was taken to cover the expenses of the Org's public speaker rep from Bethel. Elders in my family that attended this meeting informed that well over 3,000 was collected and given to this person. Unreal!
Oh, our men-worshipping has no bounds. This is why I feel no remorse about not contributing monetarily any longer; if the leadership contributed just half of all the green handshakes received, it would more than make up for my non-contribution.

i've seen it mentioned by a few on the forum that at some point there was a realization that had they not been born a jw, they never would've converted no matter how many times the jws tried to study with them.
this was my experience too, and i'm wondering how universal it is for those that were born-in but eventually left.
i think i started having this thought (more specifically that if i were not born a jw, i would surely have become an atheist by now) in my late teens.
I would have been a promising medical scientist. The small part of my extended family that are not JWs, are all in specialized medical fields.
It enrages me more and more as time passes how I missed out on that life choice thanks to the Org's indoctrination handed down for 3 gens. 😡
